Man accused of ripping ex-wife's deck from house
TOWER CITY, N.D. (AP) A Tower City man who was sentenced to a year in prison for beating his ex-wife and setting her home ablaze five years ago is facing new charges.
Authorities say 40-year-old Douglas Boppre ripped the deck off his ex-wife's house with a skid-steer loader in May.
Boppre has been charged with felony stalking and a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.
Boppre's ex-wife told authorities the two had a disagreement about custody of their three children. Court documents say Boppre then quote "threw a fit and ripped her deck off her house." Authorities said Boppre claimed the deck was his property and he removed it.
Boppre pleaded guilty in 2003 to setting the fire to his ex-wife's house in 2002. Boppre also pleaded guilty to charges of menacing, interfering with an emergency call and domestic violence.
Judge John Irby ordered Boppre to spend a year in prison and four years on probation.
The judge said Boppre beat his wife in front of the children, and set the house on fire. He doubled the jail time recommended by prosecutors.
